6 Cracking Easter Tips

1. Burn off excess calories
If you are planning a family lunch for Easter, why not plan a walk together afterwards to burn off those extra calories?  Or even better, prepare a lighter take on roast lamb as your Easter centrepiece with this healthier roast recipe.

2. Resist temptation
Try not to give into the temptation of reduced cost chocolate when shopping (something that’s especially important to remember during post-Easter sales). Avoid this by stocking up on healthy snacks beforehand such as nuts, oranges, apples, bananas – something that can still fill you up and satisfy those sweet cravings to prevent snacking on chocolate and other high sugar treats.

3. Everything in moderation
Allow yourself a small Easter chocolate or other treat but try to take your time whilst eating them so you not only enjoy it but also so you can keep track of how much you have eaten.

4. Egg-cellent ideas to keep busy
Rather than sitting around (times where temptations are at the highest) try to get creative with your whole family - an Easter egg hunt, egg decoration or even an egg and spoon race are a few fantastic examples.  Rope the kids into preparing these Health Easter bunny pancakes and take part in our Move IT Month challenge to boost your step count and get active as a family.

5. Maintain healthy habits
Set or keep to a regular routine such as set mealtimes and planned exercise sessions over the bank holiday weekend/school holidays - not only so you can spend time with your friends and family but also so you can stay healthy and active. Routines are important to help maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid picking up or going back to bad habits.  Check out our Finding Time to Change tips and example timetable.

6. Tools to keep on track
Keep to a calorie limit and the NHS recommended portion sizes as much as possible over Easter.  Use our handy food diary/meal planner and portion guide/weight loss plan
