Thirty volunteers attended Livewell’s volunteer celebration event hosted by The Mayor of Derby, Cllr Mike Carr and the Mayoress, Cilla Carr in the Jacob Rivers VC room at the Council House on Thursday 18 December.

The event paid tribute to the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication of volunteers who carry out a variety of roles to help Livewell deliver valuable services in local communities.

From leading walks, jogs and runs to helping new clients get started on their journeys, some of the volunteers have been through Livewell’s weight loss programme themselves and are happy to give back to the service by sharing their experiences and inspiring others.

The Mayor of Derby, Cllr Mike Carr thanked the volunteers for their time and commitment and said:

“It’s wonderful to see so many of you here.  This event acknowledges the important contribution you’ve made and provides an opportunity for Livewell and the Council to say thank you.

There are around 40 people who support Livewell by volunteering in a variety of roles – most of you are here this evening.  Hopefully you’d all say that you get something back from volunteering.  Perhaps you’ve learned new skills or you’ve made new friends or you enjoy helping others.  Whether you’re leading walks, runs or cycle rides or supporting new clients to get started on their journeys, your dedication, enthusiasm and time is appreciated.”

Paul McGinty, Livewell Coordinator said:

“Livewell relies on volunteers to support the delivery of the service and the mutual relationship between the service and volunteers is truly incredible.  Volunteers give an estimated 2,500 hours a year to the service and the city to support the people of Derby live healthier, happier and for longer.”

Jog co-leader, Janine Bancroft said:

“Volunteering with Livewell enables me to give back to a scheme that has helped me in my own health journey, and has helped me to help others at the same fitness levels as myself.”

Janine’s daughter, Sara Bancroft who also helps with community running groups added:

“I thoroughly enjoy volunteering with Livewell.  It is an amazing scheme that not only keeps people fit and healthy but creates great friendships and brings the community together.”

Andrea Wightman supports new clients at new-starter meetings and said:

“Livewell really has been life-changing for me.  I get a lot of enjoyment from supporting clients at activations and in classes.  I love volunteering for Livewell and have made some fantastic friends.”

Wendy Roome helps out at Livewell’s jogging groups and said:
