Livewell supports many health promotions and the #SmearForSmear campaign during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week (20-26 January) is very close to our heart with former team member, Katie sharing her story below.  Find out the facts not the myths at Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.

Livewell is celebrating being nationally recognised as the Best Health and Wellbeing Initiative in the UK for its innovative contribution in helping improve wellbeing in Derby by the Association of Public Service Excellence (APSE).

The APSE awards are designed to recognise excellence in local government frontline services across the UK.  They showcase the very best examples of service provision, new initiatives and personal commitment.

Livewell is proud of its passionate and dedicated team which has supported more than 15,000 adults, children and families in Derby to stop smoking, lose weight, improve their fitness and change their lives for the better.

Livewell is supporting a new ‘Walking for Lung Health’ walk for people in Derby living with a lung condition. Established by the British Lung Foundation and Ramblers Walking for Health, the group meets at the University of Derby (Kedleston Road) every Wednesday at 1.30pm and you can bring your friends, family and carers. Most important, taking part is free!

Many parents in Derby are concerned about their children’s health and diet and are unaware of the support available to them for FREE.

Our friends over at Derby County Community Trust offer a fun, interactive 12-month programme for children aged five to 17 years called Live It that provides easy-to-follow healthy living messages and gives children the opportunity to try new exciting ways to keep fit.

The programme has successfully supported hundreds of children to achieve a 3% reduction on BMI Z-Score.

Walking is one of the most popular and safest forms of exercise and is accessible, free and something that the vast majority can participate in.  It can be broken up throughout the day to fit around work or other daily tasks and doesn’t need any special equipment or instructions.

Livewell offers a wide range of sociable free led walks across Derby - part of The Ramblers Wellbeing Walks scheme - which are open to everyone.  There's no need to book, just turn up five minutes before the start, wear comfortable clothes and supportive footwear.

Momentum has really been building at Livewell over the past year.  We smashed last year’s NHS Health Check target two months early, increased the number of adults achieving 5% weight loss by 12% and successfully initiated a new Active Schools model to engage over 2000 children and families to manage their weight and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Other key highlights this year include:

Improving your patients' health behaviours

Livewell’s new Behaviour Change coaching for Physical Activity courses are designed to help you and your colleagues to have more meaningful conversations with patients regarding their lifestyle in order to increase their commitment and motivation.
