Livewell  is urging smokers in Derby to #QuitForCovid to reduce their risks of complications from COVID-19. Current research suggests that smokers are approximately 2.5 times as likely to need treatment in an ICU or to die from COVID-19.

Stoptober is the perfect opportunity to stub out your bad habits for good and 61-year-old Sue Cox from Derby is backing the 28-day stop smoking campaign, saying that if she can quit after 50 years of smoking, then anyone can.

People looking for some face to face information locally can attend Livewell’s Stoptober roadshow on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 September at Intu Derby (on the ground floor near H Samuels).

Livewell has launched a virtual stop smoking advisor to provide instant out of hours support.  Developed as an artificial-intelligence powered Facebook Messenger robot, Will Power offers personalised replies including specific answers about quitting with Livewell, the opportunity to receive daily tips, quirky distraction videos and games for beating cravings.  Will’s menu also links to the NHS addiction quiz to nudge smokers into thinking about quitting with the option to book an appointment with Livewell. 

Improving his mental health and seeing his teenage daughters grow up were the main reasons, Ade Fleet from Borrowash took action after 21 years of smoking up to 20 cigarettes a day.
